Primary school learners left traumatised after OR Tambo crash

The other learners had bloodshot eyes and were shaking with fear.

An accident involving two vehicles, a Suzuki Ertiga and a Mazda 2, occurred on the corner of OR Tambo Street near the provincial library just after 14:00.

The Ertiga was carrying six school learners from Middelburg Muslim School, Eastdene Combined School, and Maxmind Private School.

The vehicles were coming from different directions when one of the cars allegedly lost control, clipped the other vehicle, and crashed into a tree.

Witnesses on the scene claimed that one of the vehicles missed the stop sign, causing both vehicles to incurred damages.

Details of the accident are, however, unclear, and both involved parties spoke to a traffic officer on the scene.

One of the children in the Suzuki was severely bruised and was treated in an ER24 ambulance.

The other learners had bloodshot eyes and were shaking with fear. The driver of the Mazda complained about neck pain and she was also attended to by paramedics.

Several parents came to the scene concerned for their children, while concerned passersby helped the other learners call their parents.

The fire department cleared the scene.
