Enough is enough! Help sign the petition to keep our town out of the dark

This afternoon, between 16:00–18:00 in Kanonkop Spar’s parking lot, you can sign a petition demanding the municipality address this issue pertinent to the whole of Middelburg.

“The whole town is in the dark.” Far too many streetlights in Middelburg are dysfunctional or decrepit, and DA councillors Johann Dyason and Helda de Klerk are asking for your help to put a stop to it.

This afternoon, between 16:00–18:00 in Kanonkop Spar’s parking lot, you can sign a petition demanding the municipality address this issue pertinent to the whole of Middelburg.

Dyason made sure to note that residents in Mhluzi and Nasaret are also affected, telling the Observer that this has been an ongoing problem for 2–3 years.

The DA petition was created last November, with weekly meeting points held at various hotspots across town. Dyason said that anyone and everyone is welcome to sign tonight’s memorandum, but it is preferable if you contact your local ward councillor and sign your area-specific petition.

Dyason further stated that the DA will push the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality to make enough room in the annual budget to properly fix a substantial portion of these defunct lights.

• Make sure to visit the DA’s gazebo if you feel strongly about this issue.
