WATCH: Mayor conducts oversight visit to reservoirs
Today executive mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela said that the valves, each costing R9000, have been replaced.
With frustration mounting about the water crisis in Aerorand and other parts of Mhluzi, the mayor and senior municipal officials have addressed the community.
This afternoon during a press briefing, the municipality gave the media an update on the water situation.
It was explained that, on Tuesday morning, maintenance work was conducted at reservoirs supplying water to Tokologo, Malope Village, Mhluzi Extensions 5, 6, 8, and Aerorand.

On Wednesday, the municipality realised that eight water valves were stolen, resulting in the areas lacking water.
Today executive mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela said that the valves, each costing R9000, have been replaced.
The valves were stolen in the open field near Aerorand. Due to high water demands this weekend, the water woes continued, and residents experienced low water pressure in their homes.
The mayor added that the Graspan reservoir is currently at 60%, however, the Rietfontein reservoir, which supplies water to a bulk of the affected areas, is at 40%, and the water levels should be at 60% overnight when the water demand is low. “We strongly urge the community to contact the municipality when they see criminals damaging infrastructure,” Masilela said.
@middelburgobserver Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela, addressed the media about the water shortage earlier today. The following areas Tokologo, Malope Village, Mhluzi extensions 5, 6 & 8, and Aerorand were affected water storage after water valves were stolen on Tuesday.
He added that the municipality is working around the clock to ensure that ratepayers have running water in their taps.
Water has been restored in the majority of the affected areas except some parts of Extension 5 and Malope Village and some parts of Aerorand. Water tanks have been placed in the areas.
The mayor said that the municipality will provide constant updates to residents about the matter. Law enforcement officers are patrolling the town, and security personnel are stationed at municipal facilities.
