Traffic update – roads flooded in and around Middelburg

Hoog Street was reportedly closed by the traffic department earlier this morning.

Numerous roads in and around Middelburg have been closed due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

The following roads in Middelburg were reported as flooded earlier this morning on emergency WhatsApp groups:

Cowen Ntuli Street before Boncker and Verdoorn streets.

Hoog Street was reportedly closed by the traffic department earlier this morning.

Koets, Zuid, Weeber and Vos streets.

Piet Grobler and Njala Street in Dennesig is also slightly flooded, and motorists are advised to drive slowly.

Roads outside Middelburg:

A farmer residing on the Slaghoek road informed residents of being unable to access the N11 (Loskop) due to flooding on the Slaghoek road.

The low water bridge on the R555 between Middelburg and eMalahleni, the N4 bridge in eMalahleni near the Sasol Filling Station, and the R555 Blackhill/Ogies road before Tugela Mine are also flooded.

• David Nonyana from the Middelburg Dam confirmed that a sluice will be opened later today. Residents should expect water levels to rise even more and avoid low-lying areas.
