Man killed in head-on collision during load-shedding

A brutal head-on collision on Cowen Ntuli Street last night claimed the life of one driver and led to the closure of the main road.

The incident was reported on the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group last night at 21:17, with residents calling for emergency services after hearing the crash and fearing that one of the vehicles was going to catch fire.

According to Louwtjie Swart, co-ordinator of Traffic Alert, load-shedding is assumed to have played a role in the head-on collision between a Suzuki and Amarok.

White residue on the vehicle suggests the Suzuki caught alight and had to be extinguished.

It remains unclear what caused the head-on collision which occurred between the Vloed and Arafat crossings.

The driver of the Suzuki was killed in the collision, and the vehicle was found on its roof at the scene.

Emergency services had to cordon off Cowen Ntuli Street on both sides, with traffic being redirected until the scene was cleared.
