Calling all Picassos – Paint a Kennel for the SPCA

Brighten an abandoned animal's day!

The Middelburg SPCA’s committee has launched the perfect initiative for the town’s Picassos with their upcoming Paint A Kennel initiative.

This initiative allows creative spirits to put their talents to good use by beautifying the SPCA’s kennels.

According to the Chair of the Committee, Michelle Bolleurs, the idea is for the community to sponsor a kennel by booking one in advance, supplying the paint, brushes and rollers, as well as their creativity and time, to give the dogs at the SPCA the beautiful surroundings they deserve.

“The initiative started after three volunteers offered to give the SPCA’s cattery and clinic a makeover.

We already have a local school that has sponsored a kennel, but there are between 78 to 79 kennels altogether, which is more than enough to go around.”

According to Michelle, roughly five litres of paint will be sufficient to coat the kennels, but durable lead-free, pet-friendly paint for indoors and outdoors needs to be used, and the SPCA should be able to wash and sanitise the kennels.“

According to research, the use of yellow, orange, blue, green or pink colours are best.”

Senior Inspector Petro Oberholzer emphasised the need for pet-friendly paint, adding that kennels cannot be chosen by the sponsor, and that all bookings need to be made in advance.

Fences and gates will not be painted, only the kennel walls.

All sponsors will get a plaque with their name on at the kennel they have beautified.

For those who wish to get involved in the initiative, contact Michelle on 072 333 7221 or Inspector Oberholzer on 082 828 4539 to schedule an appropriate time and date.
