A walk away from GBV

The Mhluzi SAPS in collaboration with other organisations held a march to spread awareness on gender-based violence.

With alarming cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide, the Mhluzi police, Age in Action and Community Policing Forum wardens raised awareness about the concerning matter yesterday during a walk in Mhluzi.

The walk started at the eMhluzi Mall and ended at the Mhluzi Police Station.

The campaign aimed to spread awareness, educate and encourage residents about the high GBV cases being opened with the police.
The officials also taught residents about elderly persons’ rights and substance abuse.

A large group attended the meeting at eMhluzi Mall.

“We are expecting the community to report any form of abuse or criminal activities in their sections or areas,” said Mhluzi police communication officer Thabitha Malehase.

She further stated that the Mhluzi SAPS have zero tolerance for any form of abuse and crime, the pressing concerns require immediate attention, and the police will be available to assist any community members.

Residents who are experiencing abuse can contact social worker Dapheny Sethebe on 013 243 1186.
