Taxi driver hijacked by hitchhikers

They then instructed him to climb into the back seat.

A Limpopo taxi driver was victimised and traumatised during a six-hour ordeal from Sunday night to the early hours of Monday morning, after being hijacked.

According to the information, he was driving his taxi at around 21:30 on Sunday when he gave two hitchhikers a ride on Cowen Ntuli Street.

When the two men entered the taxi, they told the victim they were going to Somaphepha Village.

When they got to the Stoffberg road, one man gave the driver R50 and pointed a firearm at him, instructing him to stop the vehicle.

They then instructed him to climb into the back seat.

One man then allegedly drove the taxi towards the old Belfast road, where they tied the victim up and covered his face with a cloth.

He said that minutes later, he heard the sounds of his vehicle being stripped.

A bakkie allegedly arrived on the scene and picked up the car parts.

The victim said he was dragged into an unknown vehicle, taken to a veld, and dumped.

While in the bushes, he managed to untie himself and stood on the side of the road, where he asked for help.

A good Samaritan took the man to the Middelburg Police Station at around 03:00 on Monday.

No arrests have been made yet.
