DA launches latest service delivery petition
The DA in Steve Tshwete is not holding back and says that service delivery under the ANC has reached its lowest point ever.
They DA says under the current ANC administration, Steve Tshwete is falling apart. The municipality is failing to deliver basic services like water and electricity, amongst others.
“Residents of this municipality deserve a government that prioritises their needs and takes accountability.”
The party has launched another petition, calling on the municipality to accelerate and prioritise service delivery across various communities.
“For too long, residents have been on the receiving end of poor service delivery, unprofessional conduct, and a blatant disregard towards the needs of our residents,” DA councillor Elsie Vermooten said.
“Potholes, blocked drains, dysfunctional streetlights, water outages, electrical failures and overgrown grass have become the order of the day in the municipality. However, despite numerous complaints, there has been no visible improvement in the issues that residents face on the ground, and our communities have had enough,” Vermooten added.
The petition calls for the following:
• Effective channels or portals to report potholes and infrastructure failures.
• Proper consequence management for employees, especially those who are found guilty of negligence, corruption, or incompetence.
• Regular accountability reports and open communication with residents.
“The municipality must start taking accountability, and residents must be taken seriously. When service delivery problems are reported to the municipality or are noticed, they should be remedied without delay. We will not back down until the necessary changes are made,” Vermooten warned.
She argued that the ANC-led Steve Tshwete needs to come up with practical and sustainable solutions to this crisis.
“The current administration in Steve Tshwete has failed to maintain order amongst employees and ensure that they carry out their mandate. This includes efficiently providing services and acting in the best interest of residents at all times.
Noting these challenges, we are confident that our petition will propel the municipality to take swift action and attend to these shortcomings.”
