Police looking for person of interest after laptop theft in CBD
Laptop and luxury leather bag stolen from business in three minutes
It took less than five minutes for an opportunistic thief to steal a laptop and leather laptop bag from an office in the CBD on Thursday.
The theft took place between 13:00 and 13:58 yesterday at a business in Joubert Street, right opposite Laerskool Middelburg.
According to Ms Rina Enslin, she was called to another office shortly before the theft.
Upon het return to her office within less than ten minutes, she realized that her laptop and laptop bag had disappeared.
There was also cash inside the laptop bag.
Enslin checked security footage and saw a man with a dreadlock pony, casually walk by two offices towards her office.
Enslin is still baffled on how the man gained entry, because she says she made sure to lock the security gate behind her when she left her office.
When she returned the gate was still closed and locked.
She says that the security gate is not in the CCTV camera’s recording range, offering no clues as to how the man gained entry so fast.
Apart from the laptop, laptop bag and cash, the thief also made off with a set of office keys.
Enslin has since replaced the old locks with new ones.
The matter was reported to both Titon Security and the SAPS by Enslin.
Police have opened an investigation into the theft, but are yet to collect the security footage of the incident.
A screen shot of a person of interest, police wish to speak to, has meanwhile been released on social media platforms.
In the hopes of finding her stolen Dell laptop and expensive leather laptop bag, Enslin has now tuned her sights on local pawn shops.
The laptop and bag, however, have not been recovered.
She has requested that pawn shops notify her, or Titon Security, in the event that a Dell laptop and brown leather bag is traded for quick cash.
Persons with any information should contact the police, or Titon Security on 081 431 0877.
