Friday kicks off with multiple collisions, death toll stands at 4

The weekend is off to a tragic start with multiple collisions reported this morning, claiming the lives of four people.

Three different accidents have been reported in Middelburg’s immediate vicinity, including a serious multi-vehicle accident (MVA) on Dr Mandela Drive, a motorcycle accident on Cowen Ntuli Street, as well as another MVA on the R555 between Middelburg and eMalahleni.

Four die on Dr Mandela Drive

According to David Ross from Ross Towing, the death toll stands at four for this morning’s MVA on Dr Mandela Drive.

The accident was reported on the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group at 05:18 this morning at the Dr Mandela Drive and Cowen Ntuli Street T-junction.

An Iveco bus, a Toyota Quantum taxi, and a contractor’s bakkie were involved in the collision.

The section of Dr Mandela Drive between the Cowen Ntuli T-junction and the Samekoms road was closed to allow recovery.

A mere 100m away from the Dr Mandela Drive accident scene, another collision occurred between a motorcycle and a Haval.
According to Ross, no serious injuries were reported, but both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

R555

Another collision was also reported by Louwtjie Swart on the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group on the R555 between Middelburg and eMalahleni.

According to Ross, the accident also involved three vehicles.

No serious injuries were reported, but again, there was extensive damage to two of the vehicles.

The accident was situated a short distance after the train bridge.
