Meyer Street closed for road works

Section of Meyer Street closed to allow repairs of sinkhole near bridge.

Despite a public notice issued by the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality on behalf of Sanral that road works to Meyer Street will only commence on August 6, a section of the road has been closed to allow repairs.

The section of Meyer Street between the Protea- and Dr Beyers Naudé Drive intersections has been cordoned off, resulting in motorists having to make a U-turn at the Meyer- and Protea Street traffic lights.

The intersection on the corner of Meyer- and Dr Beyers Naudé Drive has also been cordoned off in front of the Middelburg Observer’s offices.

This is resulting in heavy motor vehicles driving through residential areas, and congestion during peak hours can be expected on alternative routes.

According to the public notice issued by STLM, road works on Meyer Street extend from August 6 to August 13.
DA Ward Councillor Johan Dyason, however, informed residents of the road closure earlier today, concluding that work is expected to finish by Monday.
