Meyer Street not complete as Sanral awaits asphalt delivery

The planned reopening of Meyer Street today has been delayed yet again.

Ms Minki Relebohile a consultant speaking on behalf of Sanral, informed the Middelburg Observer that the collapsed section of Meyer Street was scheduled to be completed today, but that Sanral has not yet received the delivery of asphalt, causing a delay in the street’s reopening.

The section of Meyer Street between the Protea and Dr Beyers Naudé Drive has been closed for several weeks, and the reopening was first delayed due to rainfall.

Relebohile could not give a fixed date of Meyer Street’s completion.

The road maintenance on Meyer Street, however, has extended to the northern-bound lane running between Dr Beyers Naudé and Cowen Ntuli, but only affects the far left lane.

According to Relebohile, Sanral will also be busy with road maintenance on Cowen Ntuli, Samora Machel and Walter Sisulu Street, which will endure until the end of August.

As far as possible, only one lane closures will be implemented to minimise effect on traffic.
