Bloekomsig residents planting seeds for the youth

A community clean-up initiative involving the youth from Bloekomsig is undoubtedly planting seeds for future generations.

Charleen Wroe-street, a woman who lives between Bloekomsig and Richards Bay and who was at the helm of a clean-up initiative, said that it now rests with the younger generation to keep her idea going.

Charleen arranged the clean-up, which took place in July, where children were encouraged to take responsibility for their own environment.

The clean-up included the Bloekomsig area, where about 30 children all rolled up their sleeves to pick up litter.
According to Charleen, three bakkie-loads of black bags were ultimately driven away.

“The clean-up was arranged to encourage the children, and they all seemed very enthusiastic to keep it going. I bought a couple of snacks and treats as a reward for those who participated, and the municipality donated the black bags, cool drink and cups.”

Charleen wished to thank her kids, Natalie and Cameron, Sharon and Ruan Robinson and Marthie Prinsloo, who were all instrumental in pulling off the initiative.

According to Charleen, another clean-up is planned for September, and she is looking for sponsors to contribute towards the snacks, black bags, and paint for the swings in the park.

Anyone wishing to contribute towards the ongoing project can contact Charleen on 082 896 5959.
