Care Riders challenge other teams

It’s Middelburg’s Care Riders against the rest.

Long before the Munga cycle race kicks off on November 26, Andre Brandmuller held a red cloth in front of teams, in a competition where kilometres are raced.

He challenged the VlokSkop Foundation, the Toks and Tjops’ team, Tobie Oorlog Oosthuizen and Worcester Primary School to compete from August 16 to September 31.

These teams are all busy with major charity projects.

To kick off the challenge, Brandmuller and his fellow Care Riders already pedalled 70km for practice on Saturday.

Vlok, the French rugby team’s kicking coach, immediately accepted the challenge.

The Munga is a gruelling journey where big men struggle against the wind and dust.

In the end, it’s all part of one huge charity effort for some of the teams, while the individual mountain bikers are tested to the limit.

For the last few years, Brandmuller’s teams, known as the Care Riders, have raised money for the Middelburg Care Village.
There are three Care Rider teams again this year.
