WATCH: National symposium kicks off with discussion on peace talks

Town in the heritage spotlight.

The 24th annual symposium of the Heritage Society of South Africa kicked off this morning at the Middelburg Country Club with the first speaker Professor Fransjohan Pretorius who spoke on “The Middelburg Peace discussions – 28 February 1901: From where, what and where to”.

There will be a visit to the historic Witkerk this afternoon at 15:30 and an organ performance from the same church at 20:00.

There will also be a photo exhibition at the Country Club of historical figures.

Tobie van den Bergh

Tobie started as a journalist in September 1975. He was appointed editor of the Middelburg Observer in 1982 where he worked until he retired in 2024. He received numerous awards, is a founding member of the Forum for Community Newspapers and has published two books about his work.
