World-class! This is what the former chairperson of the Heritage Society of South Africa, Cathy Munro, said this morning about the organ performance by Thelma Steyn last night in the historic Witkerk.

The society’s annual symposium continues today at the Middelburg Country Club with Dr Pierre Edwards, who has already given a presentation on the Kruger Millions that had delegates glued to their seats.
@middelburgobserver The world class organ performance by Thelma Steyn last night in the historic Witkerk. The performance was part of the National Heritage Simposium hertiage site visit list. The simposium, hosted in Middelburg this year, will end on Thursday.
He had bad news for treasure hunters: “the myth of the Kruger Millions is just that, a myth.”

The “walking history book,” Theo Ligthelm, also gave a presentation on the Middelburg Heritage Society’s successful blue sign project.
The project started three years ago and 51 signs have already been erected all over town, each with its own QR code.
@middelburgobserver Mr Theo Ligthelm speaking about the blue heritage plaques installed at Middelburg landmarks, which can be scanned by QR code. Once scanned, the code takes the user to an informative website where the history of the respective heritage sites are detailed. Its a handy tool for school tasks, among other uses.
Other topics that will be in the spotlight today are “Historical Middelburg through the eyes of a Deltiologist” and “The heritage of the Van der Merwes of Aasvoëlkrans”.
The day will conclude with a gala evening where various awards will be presented.
The symposium concludes tomorrow.
