WATCH: Cyclists hold championships at Karel Kat
Badplaas no longer home to Mpumalanga cyclists.
 
						Mpumalanga’s own road cycling championships are off the table. The province hosted its road and time trial championships at Badplaas every year.
The chairman of Mpumalanga cycling, Danie Botha, confirmed that Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo and possibly the Free State, will host one joint championship on 17 and 18 January 2026.
However, there will be separate medal presentations for each province.
@middelburgobserver Who said road cycling is dead? A large group of cyclists from Middelburg Cycling Club ride distances of 80 to 100 kilometres on Saturday mornings.
It will be held at the Karel Kat function venue at Mapleton (Boksburg) with the time trial on Saturday 17 January and the road race on Sunday 18 January.
Distances have not yet been announced.
In the meantime, road cycling is gaining popularity after the Wynand de Villiers debacle.
There were 12 000 participants at the RideJoburg cycle race in Johannesburg on Sunday and two races will be held in Rooiwal in November.
Eduard Prinsloo of the Pretoria Cycling and Racing club is hosting a race at the Dutch Reformed Church Rooiwal on 8 November and Lenie Smit of Lenick is hosting the Touching Hearts race over 95, 50 and 26 kilometres also at Rooiwal on 22 November.
De Villiers of De Villiers Cycling, has applied for liquidation after already receiving entry fees from various races.
