Two security guards shot in cash-in-transit ambush in SADC Street

Seven robbers ambushed a cash-in-transit vehicle on SADC Street, shooting two security guards and fled with the money.

Two security guards were seriously injured during a cash-in-transit ambush at around 10:15 this morning at a business in SADC Street in the Middelburg CBD.

According to a reliable police source, the attackers drove up to the cash vehicle, a bakkie, and ambushed the guards by opening fire without warning. One guard was shot in both legs, while the second was wounded in the arm.

The suspects forcibly took one of the guard’s rifles and also overpowered the guard who had collected the money from inside the business. He retaliated and fired back at the attackers, but the suspects fled with the money in a white BMW and a silver Mercedes Kompressor.

The police have placed that part of SADC Street under lockdown while forensic teams remain on the scene conducting a full investigation.
• A total of seven suspects were involved in the attack.

• One of the injured security guards was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, and the other was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Their conditions are unknown at this stage.
