WATCH: Police van stuck in pothole as Belfast roads collapse

Heavy trucks, crumbling roads, and growing anger in Belfast.

This morning, residents of Belfast blocked certain roads and entrances to the town in protest against trucks destroying what remains of Belfast’s roads.

Last week, a police van became stuck in one of Belfast’s notorious potholes in Leyd Street, where vehicles reportedly have to be towed from the same pothole more than once daily.

Trucks have been blocked from entering Belfast.

Residents say it is fortunate the incident did not occur during an emergency. The police van had to be towed from the pothole less than an hour after a large truck became stuck at the same spot.

Residents have sent fear-inducing videos showing the dangerous roads they are forced to navigate every day.

The protest follows last week’s Middelburg Observer reports on multiple vehicles that had to be towed from the Leyd Street pothole.

However, Leyd Street is not the only area affected. Videos sent to the Observer by residents show the true extent of the continued road deterioration faced by the Belfast community.

Residents say they can no longer use safer alternative routes, as trucks simply follow their vehicles and cause further destruction.”
