Community blocks Belfast entrances forcing silica-mine to halt deliveries
Belfast community block heavy vehicles at town entrances.
Transport providers, including a Belfast silica-mine delivery fleet, has been forced to halt deliveries after the community blocked both entrances to Belfast.
Goods can no longer be transported through the town from both the upper and lower entrances, with large stones blocking the route.
According to one of the complainants there’s a small group of men guarding both road blockages.
“Until recently the so-called guardians allowed trucks, whose drivers paid a R300 bribe, to pass,” a complainant says.
In August 2025 the community also blocked routes between Belfast and Dullstroom, and Belfast and Stoffberg, due to municipal service issues, including Belfast’s roads.
A fortnight ago Belfast residents also blocked trucks from entering the town, blaming the heavy vehicles for extensive road damage.
According to some protestors, the municipality only tarred some streets while leaving some of the routes as gravel.
Residents say that apart from the damage to roads, the trucks also pose a danger to other motorists and pedestrians, while dust caused by the trucks also permeate their homes.
The nearby silica mine has meanwhile postponed deliveries due to the road blockages.
Complainants say police refuse to do anything about the illegal road closures, because the situation is peaceful.
The cops are allegedly also aware of past bribes being paid to allow certain trucks through.
Belfast SAPS said that they are monitoring the situation.
