A stupid CBD robber traded his phone for the one he stole off an elderly couple outside a wholesale warehouse on Tuesday.
The imbecile waited for the couple to leave the warehouse with their shopping before he pounced.
While the gentleman loaded the shopping into the boot, his wife searched for pocket change to pay a useless car guard.
While their attention was elsewhere, the robber jetted through the driver’s side door to grab a handbag on the passenger seat.
What the robber didn’t bargain on was a second shopper next to the elderly couple in the parking lot, intervening.
The Samaritan exited his work vehicle while the larceny was unfolding.
The man, the couple said, had an air conditioning branded vehicle, and immediately tackled the robber.
The scuffle that ensued left a nasty dent in the elderly couple’s vehicle, but the stolen handbag was luckily recovered, minus the elderly gentleman’s cellphone.
What the robber left behind, however, was his own hoodie, a shirt, and his cellphone.
The Samaritan urged the couple to leave when bystanders started surrounding them, allowing the robber to break free.
While the couple was leaving, they saw the robber turn back to the man who helped them, with a knife in his hand.
In a previous CBD grab, the wife’s cellphone was stolen.
When the stolen phone was powered back on, the couple were informed by their children that the WhatsApp avatar that was online had posted photos from inside a mosque with praying men, on the status updates.
The husband detailed a third CBD robbery, in which a bunch of keys were stolen from him.
The gentleman approached a petrol attendant nearby, offering the attendant R500 if he could help retrieve the keys successfully.
“He found the keys within 10 minutes and I paid him what I owed,” the elderly man told the Middelburg Observer.
The couple haven’t reported Tuesday’s incident, instead looking to bargain with the robber to swap phones and part ways.
“I just want my phone, there’s irreplaceable photos on there that I desperately want back,” the victim pleaded.
The couple says ‘from our past experience’, all CBD robbers are armed, and not shy on brandishing their weapons when they are challenged.
The three incidents detailed by the pair happened within the span of four months.
“You can go back there now and you’ll find the same guys hovering around, looking for the next easy target,” the husband warned.
They do believe that their age makes them a target.
The couple said no one helped them apart from the noble air-con technician.
As for the car guard, ‘we pay because if you don’t, who knows what can happen?’
“Thank you to the man who assisted, it’s us against the criminals and we should take back our town centre.”
