Young environmentalist leads clean-up drive

Middelburg Primary School and a few Middelburg Scouts joined forces to clean the park.

Grade 6 learners from Middelburg Primary School and a few Middelburg Scouts joined forces to clean the park opposite Middelburg Primary School.

The initiative formed part of Grade 6 learner Luke Monteith’s Expo project, which focuses on improving waste management not only at the school but also in the surrounding community.

His concept moved beyond theory as learners gathered to remove litter and restore the park.

Working together, the group collected waste and improved the condition of the public space, creating a cleaner and more welcoming environment for residents.

After the clean-up, the learners took a break to rest and enjoy the transformation.

Before the clean-up began, Luke emphasised the importance of teamwork and environmental responsibility. He highlighted how picking up litter not only improves the appearance of the area but also protects animals and makes the community proud.

He expressed gratitude to those who supported the initiative, including the Middelburg Scouts,

Middelburg Primary School, and his classmates, noting that what began as a small Expo idea has grown into a project that makes a real difference.
