Brace for daily backed-up traffic in Sondagsrivier Street

Brace for ‘Meyer Bridge traffic’ in Sondagsrivier Street until the end of June.

Major traffic delays are expected near the new Radisson Hotel over the next month.

Residents travelling through Aerorand may want to leave a little earlier for the next few weeks as repairs start in Sondagsrivier Street near the newly constructed hotel.

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality issued a notice earlier today (May 26), warning motorists about expected delays and lane closures in the area.
Construction work will take place daily between 08:00 and 16:00 until June 30.

According to municipal spokesperson Lerato Kgomo, the road conditions have deteriorated, and urgent repairs are needed.
Motorists can expect stop-and-go traffic, delays, and temporary lane closures while it’s getting fixed.

Known as one of the busiest routes in Middelburg, it is certain to cause traffic issues. Residents travelling to the Middelburg Mall, schools, businesses and surrounding neighbourhoods should rather use other routes.
The notice has already raised concern among residents, who still vividly remember the frustration and heavy traffic caused by the Meyer Street roadworks.

Fears have already been voiced about the repairs leading to long queues and backed-up traffic in peak times.

The municipality apologised for the inconvenience and urged motorists to obey temporary road signs and traffic officials in the area.
