There was a shock victory for Prichard Dube in the Magic at the Palace tournament at Emperors Palace last Saturday night.

Dube is currently being coached by Middelburg’s Steven Pieterse.

Dube upset unbeaten former amateur champion Sanele Sogcwayi in a featherweight fight. Dube took the fight to the previously unbeaten Sogcwayi and ground out a six-round majority decision: 56–56, 58–55, 57–56.

Before the Sogcwayi bout, Dube lost three times, drew once, and his only win was in May against Lopez Maluleke.

The Durban-based, DRC-born José Drago Kadima needed just 36 seconds to stop Herbert Matovu for the vacant WBC Africa Heavyweight title.

In a five-round battle, Juan Alberts and Jack Mulowayi went to war before the contest was halted at the start of round six on doctor’s orders, with Alberts bleeding from a cut over his left eye.

Heavyweight Ethan Peters extending his winning streak to three with a second-round stoppage of debutant Andre Bruwer.

Light-heavyweight prospect Andre Malumba made light work of Pieter Breytenbach, stopping him in round three behind a barrage of right hands.
