LDPWRI makes new yellow machinery public

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and LDPWRI MEC Ernest Rachoene unveiled the new fleet at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on December 9.

The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure (LDPWRI) has procured a fleet of 251 new yellow machines and vehicles to augment the current acceleration of the Dikgerekgere Wednesdays service delivery initiative.

The heavy earthmoving machines and vehicles are expected to enhance the maintenance of the provincial road network.

Ndavhe Ramakuela, the provincial government spokesperson, said the significant investment will enable faster and more efficient maintenance of both paved and unpaved roads, improving travel comfort for road users across the five districts of Limpopo province.

Ramakuela indicated that the fleet will advance the Dikgerekgere programmes, which focus on blasting gravel roads, re-gravelling and clearing road reserves. The fleet comprises front loaders, graders, concrete mixers, tar cutters, minibuses, vans and slow rollers.

LDPWRI, led by Rachoene, made a commitment to procure the machinery and vehicles during the activation of the Dikgerekgere Wednesday initiative in July.

Ramathuba remarked, “As we unveil this state-of-the-art fleet, we are not merely adding vehicles to our inventory; we are making a profound statement of commitment to building a sustainable road network, enhancing public infrastructure and empowering the people of Limpopo.”

Ramathuba said she was very proud of the new fleet because, at the beginning of their term, people threw cold water at them, saying it would never happen.
“They said the Dikgerekgere Wednesday campaign will collapse after its launch and that we shall not get enough machinery to support it. Look at it now. We are forging ahead.”
