Mayor Bahula reaches first year in office
Mayor Minah Bahula just celebrated her first year in office!
Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor and ANC Acting Regional Chairperson Minah Bahula is celebrating her one-year milestone in office.
Bahula was elected to the helm of the district municipality in 2023. Since she assumed office, Sekhukhune has witnessed a tenure of dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to service delivery.
Sam Uwane, ANC Sekhukhune Regional spokesperson, said the party commends the sterling work the executive mayor has done since she took office last November.
“The municipality used to make headlines on various media platforms for issues of maladministration, including extortion of public resources by faceless people. The ANC applauds the executive mayor for having rebranded and stabilised the municipality politically and administratively. She has improved conditional grants spending, improved provision of water through a robust programme of boreholes, and unblocked infrastructure projects,” expressed Uwane.
He added that Bahula remains the embodiment of servant leadership with the unique ability to connect with ordinary people and is always prepared to confront poverty and inequality.
“She is doing everything in her power to assist vulnerable families in the district. She is the hope of the hopeless. The district municipality will never be the same under her stewardship,” averred Uwane.
Seun Mogotji, Bolsheviks Party of South Africa leader, in opposition to the SDM council, indicated that naturally, they are far from satisfied with the snail’s pace of certain aspects but are overall comforted by the stability that Bahula has brought to the municipality.
Mogotji highlighted that, unlike her predecessors, they have seen the executive mayor engaging with traditional leaders, who are major stakeholders and custodians of communities.
“We have seen her addressing the water shortage issue through boreholes, and she was actively involved in the Moutse water reticulation project. In the one year she has been in the office, the municipality’s spending has improved to above average and key appointments have been made. We can only get better from here under her leadership,” remarked Mogotji.
