Moenyana enjoys international recognition

A local poet went to Australia to receive a special accolade.

Thoko Moenyana, a poet engaged in women’s empowerment initiatives, has won an accolade in the International Queen Book Awards for her leadership role in society.

Moenyana travelled to The Kingsbury Colombo in Australia to receive her Outstanding Achievement in Customer Satisfaction accolade under the category Queen Book Achievement in honour of her contribution to women’s excellence.

She recently held a successful Mosadi O Swara Thipa Ka Bogaleng Women’s Capacitation Programme in Senwabarwana Village, which attracted women from all walks of life.

Moenyana said she is overwhelmed by the recognition she gets for her work, “Many women encourage me to continue with the programmes I am running, and that makes me realise I am on the right track, especially after the recent Mosadi O Swara Thipa Ka Bogaleng event,” smiled Moenyana.

The women’s rights activist from Thabakhubedu Village in Dennilton launched her poetry book, A re Phuthane, during a glittering event at the Harvest of Glory Church in Groblersdal in June.

The book features different poems aimed to guide and instil a culture of understanding among people.
Moenyana describes herself as someone with a desire to help people out of things they are afraid or ashamed to speak about, especially women. She uses her love for poetry to convey messages through her book to help people speak out and find closure.

She attributes her latest recognition to dedication, commitment and hard work, “It feels like a dream come true. As a rural girl from a small village called Thabakhubedu in Dennilton, it is truly an honour for me to be recognised through an international award,” indicated Moenyana.
