Neglected road now under repair

The deteriorated gravel road linking Maila Segolo, Dinotshi, and Mathibeng villages in Makhuduthamaga’s Ward 23 received major maintenance work.

Although the road linking Maila Segolo, Dinotshi, and the Mathibeng villages in Makhuduthamaga is in its early stages, maintenance work already began yesterday (Tuesday).

Thomas Mashabela, municipal spokesperson, said that work on the stretch included re-gravelling, reshaping, and stabilisation.

“The road has been severely impacted by surface erosion, land degradation, and prolonged rain damage, affecting mobility and service delivery in the area,” Mashabela stated.

He said the programme is in line with the municipality’s ongoing Dikgerekgere Tuesdays service delivery initiative.

Additionally, Extended Public Works Programme workers debushed the area alongside the road.

Mashabela indicated that the road is still at an early stage, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to addressing rural infrastructure challenges.

Mayor Merah Mahlase emphasised that through responsible road maintenance, people and the environment will be protected.

Community members mentioned that they struggled with the bad state of the road for an extended period.

“To see the municipality here, working with us, gives us hope. We can’t wait to see it improved. We need to easily reach the main road and our homes,” a resident said.
