Dire roads receive attention

Extremely damaged roads in Vleeschboom Village are receiving much-needed attention.

The re-gravelling and rehabilitation of roads damaged by rain in Vleeschboom Village, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, commenced on Tuesday.

According to the municipality, work on the affected roads in the village will be carried out throughout this week.

Thomas Mashabela, municipal spokesperson, said the project, aligned to the sub-region’s ongoing Dikgerekgere Tuesdays service delivery programme, further includes the reshaping, compacting and initiation of new gravel roads to restore the safety of residents in Katlegong and Witbank sections.

Mashabela indicated that priority is on the village’s streets and access routes near the local supermarket and fuel station that are essential for residents’ daily movement and access to services.

On behalf of Mayor Merah Mahlase, ExCo member and Head of Economic Development and Planning, Eric Mosoane, reiterated that Dikgerekgere Tuesdays remain a commitment of the municipality to address community challenges and ensure that roads are usable, safe and supportive of everyday life.

Several councillors, ward committee members, municipal officials and community members joined the rollout of the initiative.

Residents praised the municipality’s efforts to address the challenges of poor road conditions in the area.
