Mayor Bahula calls for increased road safety
Sekhukhune District Municipality officially launched the region’s Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Moratiwa Shopping Complex in Monsterlus.
The Road Safety Awareness Campaign was held on December 15.
Stakeholders, including taxi associations, the Community Safety Forum, traditional leaders, and SAPS representatives, graced the event.
Executive Mayor Minah Bahula, who led the programme, highlighted the recent road accidents that occurred across the district, singling out those on the R37 and the R579.
Bahula stressed the need for heightened road user awareness, responsible driving behaviour, and strict adherence to traffic laws in order to reduce fatalities and injuries on the roads.
“The festive season is a time of joy and celebrating with friends and family. However, it is also a time when our roads become busy, and the risk of accidents and fatalities is on the increase. Let us remember that every life lost on our roads is a tragedy that affects families, communities and the nation,” she said.
The mayor further condemned gender-based violence, describing the scourge as a heinous crime against women and children.

The crisis has been declared a national disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa, calling on community members to work together to end violence in all forms.
Furthermore, Bahula wished all residents, motorists, and visitors a safe and peaceful Christmas, encouraging everyone to enter the upcoming year with a renewed commitment to safety, responsibilities, and social cohesion.
