Gold for Dean, silver for Megan

Bloemfontein is known as the City of Roses and the home of the Cheetahs, but during the past week, it was buzzing with high-level swimming action and extremely good swimmers.

MHS was represented by two first-team swimmers at the Swim South Africa Level 3 from the 28 – 31 March 2019. In spite of a few health hiccups, both swimmers made their school proud.

Dean Hannay (14) took part in seven events in his age group and started the first day on a high. He swam the 400m Freestyle event and took charge. He took 2.81 seconds off his personal best time and snatched the gold medal with a winning time of 4:53.70.

On day three, Dean swam the 100m Backstroke event. He took 3.38 seconds off his personal best, qualifying for the finals, and when the finals came, took another 5.33 seconds off, ultimately placing him 4th.
