Loskop Marathon kicks off in Middelburg amid wet conditions

The marathon, viewed by many as one of the best in the country, continues without a main sponsor, though many smaller sponsors and the local municipality have stepped in to ensure the event's success.

Despite the rainy weather, runners flocked to the Steve Tshwete Municipality, where the 2026 Loskop Marathon started at 06:00 today.

A whopping 4,588 runners entered the marathon this year, which consists of a 50km ultra-marathon, a 21.1km trail run, and 10km and 5km races, all finishing at the picturesque Forever Resorts Loskop Dam.

The Middelburg Observer is covering the race and will be publishing photos and videos at regular intervals throughout the day.
