Baby discovered in dustbin outside Halfway Gardens

MIDRAND – A dead baby, suspected to be a newborn, was found in a dustbin and police seek the community's assistance.

A dead baby was found in a dustbin on 8 November outside Halfway Gardens, Midrand.

According to Danny Maduray from Ria Sebetsa Security Services, a trolley pusher alerted one of his security officers that there were a lot of flies in the bin. On investigation, the little corpse was discovered. Witnesses speculate that it was a newborn.

“The discovery took place at about 10am. Midrand police arrived at the scene when they were contacted by my security officer,” said Maduray.

Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Mmakgomo Semono, confirmed the incident. Police have opened a docket for murder.

Semono has pleaded with the community to assist in identifying the mother, and highlighted that even the smallest clue could lead to an arrest.

Maduray said the image of the baby was heartbreaking, with the flies all over its body. “Ria Sebetsa welcomes any anonymous tips or information that will assist the police and hopefully curb the spread of such crimes.”
