Beaulieu siblings strike a chord in national music competition

With talent, discipline, and a shared love of music, Connor and Sienna Liu are striking a harmonious path toward national and potentially international recognition.

The spotlight is shining brightly on Connor (12) and Sienna Liu (11), talented siblings from Beaulieu Preparatory School, after their impressive performances in the National Victoria K Bennett (VKB) Music Competition.

Over three challenging rounds, the young musicians showcased their mastery of classical instruments, earning top honours and a place among the country’s most promising young talent.

The prestigious VKB Competition, formerly known as the Philip Moore Competition, has grown since its inception in 2005 into an event of international standards, offering competitors of all ages the chance to demonstrate their skills on a variety of classical instruments.

Connor excelled on the piano, earning a diploma (90% and above) in the first round and advancing to the semi-finals, where he placed in the top five.

His sister, Sienna, entered the competition on both piano and flute, earning diplomas for both instruments in the opening round. She progressed to the semi-finals on both instruments and took second place on her flute, securing two of the five semi-final spots in each category.

The siblings are now preparing for their next major challenge: the Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition, set to take place at the Endler Hall of the University of Stellenbosch from September 30 to October 5 – one of South Africa’s most prestigious national music contests.

Their mother, Anna Chen, beams with pride at their dedication and growth.
