Rabie Ridge stadium hosts lively community aerobics boot cam
The City of Johannesburg prioritises the fitness and wellness of community members in Rabie Ridge and surrounding areas.
Physical wellness has become a cornerstone of community life in Rabie Ridge, where residents recently gathered at the Rabie Ridge Stadium for an energetic aerobics session and boot camp.
People of all ages and from different regions came together with one goal: to promote fitness and health in their community. Hosted by the City of Johannesburg, these sessions aim to keep communities healthy despite limited resources.

They are held every two weeks, rotating between areas such as Diepsloot, Tembisa, Ebony Park, Sandton, and Rabie Ridge.
Nompumelelo Mpala, a resident of Alexandra and an active aerobics participant, shared her perspective:
“Keeping healthy should be a lifestyle, and being healthy doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym specifically. You can stay healthy while exercising in your own home and space.”

The city’s initiative is not only about exercise but also about encouraging balanced lifestyles across local communities. The turnout was impressive, with participants ranging from nine years old to 65, all showing true sportsmanship. Monalisa Zondo, a resident of Tembisa, encouraged Midrand residents to join.
“If you still don’t know about aerobics, I’d say you are really sleeping. With aerobics, you also get a group of people who will support you and boost your energy. Come join the sessions, they will clear your mind and help you with your physical and mental health.”

Instructors demonstrated resilience and preparation, leading participants through a wide range of exercises. Bongani Bila, founder of BonganiFit and one of the instructors, expressed his excitement at the large turnout.
“Today was really great. Working out with so many people was a good thing because they were more interactive. It was also nice to instruct on stage with more space for everyone.”

The atmosphere was electric, with members motivating one another to push through.
Fitness instructor and personal trainer Sonti Lephalala emphasised the importance of confidence.
“For people to join aerobics, they need to have confidence. They should trust themselves and know what they want to change within themselves and the community.”
After the aerobics session, residents seamlessly transitioned into the boot camp, ending the day on a high note of energy and unity.
