Truth and Hope Foundation sets sights on producing Gauteng’s next football and tennis stars

The Truth and Hope Foundation believes every child deserves a chance to succeed, using football and tennis to nurture talent while steering young people away from crime and drugs.

The Truth and Hope Foundation is continuing to make its mark on the local sporting scene, as both its football and tennis clubs record steady growth, producing talented young athletes while creating opportunities that extend far beyond the playing field.

The foundation’s football club, Dubula Stars United FC, is currently competing in the championship for the Super Cup after both its U13 and U17 teams finished the Midrand Local Football Association’s Kanana Stream as league champions last season.

On July 7, foundation president and head coach Sydwell Ramakokovhu said the championship prepares players for the next level.

“Our goal is to produce champions who can compete in the Gauteng development league (GDL). Children need opportunities to progress after winning their local leagues.

If they keep playing on the same grounds without moving forward, they eventually lose hope.”

The club has grown to around 65 registered players, attracting youngsters from as far as Tshwane and Ekurhuleni following last season’s success.

Ramakokovhu highlighted several players to watch this season, including U13 midfielder and striker Sibusiso Zulu, who previously played as a goalkeeper, and U19 player Kgosimang Moloi, whom he has also appointed as an assistant coach for the younger age groups.

“We don’t want to lose children, and later find them involved in drugs or other negative activities. Not every child will excel academically, but many have sporting talent. Sport becomes a second home, where they can build confidence, discipline, and purpose.

The foundation has also experienced growing interest from potential sponsors following the success of player Blessing Skhosana, who recently earned an opportunity to attend football trials with Spanish club Levante UD.

“Since the news about Blessing’s trials in Spain, individuals and business people have approached us wanting to sponsor the foundation. We are a registered organisation that complies with all regulations, and we encourage sponsors to partner with us and become part of changing young people’s lives.”

Beyond football, the foundation’s Tsa Kasi Tennis Club is also making significant strides. Ramakokovhu said participation continues to increase, with the club now competing in the provincial league.

“I want to thank Sam Mothapo for empowering me and opening doors for us to participate in district and provincial competitions. Region A sport and recreation has consistently supported the tennis programme whenever opportunities arise.”

The tennis club currently has about 15 players and regularly competes in tournaments, with the Central Corridor Tennis League set to resume later this year.

The foundation also recently secured sponsorship from Play It Forward, which donated sporting equipment worth thousands of rands, including tennis rackets and equipment for basketball, swimming, and cricket.

Despite the progress, Ramakokovhu expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of public tennis courts across Johannesburg.

The foundation is encouraging both aspiring players and potential sponsors to become involved in its programmes.
