Extreme Festival serves-up red-hot action in East London
Six disciplines produced close racing despite windy and cold conditions.

This year’s Extreme Festival motorsport travelling circus performed at the East London Grand Prix circuit on Saturday.
Six racing disciplines on four and two wheels jousted in cold, blustery conditions, that did little to inhibit the spectacle on South Africa’s fastest race circuit.
Top billing on the weekend belonged to two Global Touring Car and SupaCup races. Starting from pole position, Michael van Rooyen (Gazoo Toyota Corolla) won the first race ahead of Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla drivers Robert Wolk and Scott Temple, plus Julian van der Watt (Autozone Ford Focus).
Race two, started from an inverted grid, went to Lee Thompson (Universal BMW 2 Series), followed by Wolk, Van Rooyen and Temple.
Jason Campos (Turn 1 SupaPolo) took the first SupaCup victory from Bradley Liebenberg (Sparco SupaPolo), Jonathan Mogotsi (VW Motorsport SupaPolo) and Jeffrey Kruger (Universal SupaPolo). Race two was won by Liebenberg, chased to the flag by Mogotsi, Kruger and Saood Variawa (SVR SupaPolo).
Jurie Swart (Alpine Autohaus Polo) took the opening Volkswagen Polo Cup race victory from Keegan Campos (Turn 1 Polo) and Arnold Neveling (Stradale Polo).
Neveling won the next time around, leading home Swart and Jaydon Els (King Price Extreme SupaPolo). The day’s final race was won by Leyton Fourie (Universal Polo), chased to the line by Neveling and Bezuidenhout.
After championship leader Andrew Rackstraw (RDSA Mygale) spun off, youngster Jarrod Waberski (DAW Mygale) won the first Investchem Formula 1600 race ahead of Antwan Geldenhuys (Abacus Mygale) and Alex Vos (Ecurie Zoo Van Diemen). Rackstraw clawed back to win the second race from Waberski and Gejdenhuys.
Local hero Travis Naude (Buco ZX10) won both the Kawasaki Masters Cup races, closely challenged by defending champion Graeme van Breda (Stefanutti Stocks ZX10). Rob Cragg (Madmacs ZX10) and Michael Smith (Kawasaki ZX10) took turns in the respective final podium places.
The next round of the 2021 Extreme Festival will be held at the Red Star Raceway near Delmas on Saturday, 25 September.
