Mazda CX-5 now with SISS technology
The Mazda CX-5 continues to surprise and delight South African customers with its next generation technologies that now includes the addition of Mazda's Smart Idle Stop System (SISS) on all models.
The system improves fuel economy by up to 10 percent in heavy traffic and in urban areas where the driver frequently stops at traffic lights and intersections it is claimed. SISS saves fuel by shutting down the vehicle’s engine automatically when the car is stationary, and restarts it when the driver resumes driving.
Conventional idling stop systems restart a vehicle’s engine with an electric motor using exactly the same process as when the engine is started normally. Mazda’s SISS, on the other hand, restarts the engine through combustion.
Mazda’s system initiates engine restart by injecting fuel directly into the cylinder while the engine is stopped, and igniting it to generate downward piston force. In addition to saving fuel, the SISS ensures that the engine will restart quickly and with exactly the same timing every time.
Mazda’s advanced technology ensures the engine restarts in roughly half the time of other conventional electric motor idling stop systems. Drivers will feel no delay when resuming their drive, which means they can enjoy a comfortable and stress-free ride.
With the full suite of SKYACTIV technologies, the CX-5 2.0 litre petrol engine uses as little as 6.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in manual guise and 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres in automatic configuration.
SKYACTIV engines have been designed to make internal combustion as effective as possible. The compression ratio is a central feature. It is extraordinarily high at 13:1 thanks to a newly-designed 4-2-1 exhaust system and special pistons that resolve the challenges associated with high compression and develops 114 kW of power at 6 000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 4 000 rpm.
Mazda offers a brand new cutting-edge six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission on the Dynamic and Individual derivatives, to enhance the CX-5’s athletic character. An engaging six-speed manual transmission is fitted to the Active model.
Every CX-5 comes with a three year Mazda Roadside Assistance plan, a five-year/90 000 km Service Plan and a four-year/120 000 km warranty.
