Coastal storm brewing as Inland series heads for Aldo Scribante

Known for being hard on tyres, the tricky Scribante layout will host two races over six disciplines.

The inland Regional Extreme Festival racing brigade will tackle its annual “away race” at the Port Elizabeth Aldo Scibante circuit this weekend, with five categories taking part.

Topping the weekend’s offerings will be two races for Pozidrive VW Challenge cars, with 31 drivers scheduled to take on the tight and twisty Scribante tarmac.

Judging by results thus far this season, the man to beat at the front end has to be Rory Atkinson (BHIT Polo). His closest adversaries should include drivers like Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Polo), Dawie van der Merwe (Universal Motorsport Polo), Derick Smalberger (Sabertek Polo), Bevin Masters (The CPS Warehouse Polo), Waldie Meintjies (Allwagen Spares Polo) and Roland Hopkins (Bush n Buck Game Farm Polo).

The day’s quickest lap times should come from the G&H Transport Extreme Supercar category. Heading up the entry list should be Dayne Angel (Angel Autohaus Porsche 911), Ben Morgenrood (Morgenrood Lexus), Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo), Rick Loureiro (Combine Racing BMW M3), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430 GT3), Marius Jackson (MegaFibre Audi R8), Ricardo Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo) and Mark du Toit (TAR Ferrari F430 GT3).

The Car Care Clinic 111 races for Sports and GT cars will see front runners like Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen SupaPolo), Mark du Toit (TAR BMW Z4), Robert Neil (Delmon Mining Ford Focus ST), Johan van der Vyver (Devlaw Subaru Impreza WRX STI), Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Golf) and Andre’ de Lange (ADL Roofing Ford Focus ST).

Racing behind the 111 vehicles will be Car Care Clinic SuperHatch class, with the field led by Brett Garland (Torch Spark Plugs Honda Civic) and Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic).

Chasing them should be people like Andre’ Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa), Melanie Spurr (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Polo), Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz) and Wessel Smit (Volkswagen Polo).

The DOE Formula Vee category could well produce the day’s closest racing, with the tight Scribante infield and long pit straight combining to create many passing opportunities.

Top contenders should include reigning champion Luschen Ramchander (Liqui Moly Forza), Gert van den Berg (DOE Quality Parts Formula Vee), Brandon Hills (Titan Premium Formula Vee), Theodore Vermaak (Start My Car Formula Vee), Josef Kotze (Top Products Forza) and Shaun van der Linde (Truck City Boksburg Formula Vee).

Due to Covid-19 constraints, no spectators will be allowed at Aldo Scribante.
