Historic Inland series readying for weekend attack on Red Star

A total of six categories will participate over two races each.

The Red Star Raceway near Delmas will host a round of the 2021 Historic Inland Championship this Saturday, with six car categories to participate.

Topping the day’s activities will be two races for Pre-1980 Historic Saloon Cars, which have drawn 19 entries.

The four front runners should certainly be Peter Bailey (Bailey Cars Porsche 911), Andre’ van der Merwe (Evapco Porsche 911), George Avvakoumides (Liqui Moly Porsche 911) and Richard Pott (Porsche 911 RSR), but there are a number of more ordinary tin-top entries that could mess with them.

They should include Johann Smith (JMS Mazda Capella), Jannie van Rooyen (Volkswagen Scirocco), Deon van Vuuren (Hoosier Mazda R100), Andre’ ten Napel (TNMC Volkswagen Scirocco), Mike O’Sullivan (East Coast Chevrolet SS), Rene Janse van Rensburg (SV Tech Ford Escort) and Stuart Konig (Northern Bolt Volkswagen Scirocco).

The Pre-1980 Midvaal Historics races should see Willie Hepburn run away in his venerable, ultra fast Amtek Opel Rekord V8. Behind him, there should be spirited competition between people like Travis Jensen (SV Tech Datsun), Daniel Lotter (Killarney Ford Escort), Franz Jensen (Jensen Towing Datsun) and Adrian McCaw (Alfetta).

Running with them will be the Pre-1966 Little Giants, with top contenders like John Ten Doeschate (GSM Dart), Ishmael Baloyi (GSM Dart), Kyle Brink (Mini Cooper S) and Terence Botes (Mini Cooper).

The Clubmans and Sports Car races should see Pieter Zeelie winning in his Speads RS12, chased by the likes of George Economides (Wealth Ave BMW 328i), Dirk Lawrence (JDM Honda Ballade), Phillip Emmenes (Uniglide BMW M3), Gerald Wright (Sports 2000), Neil de Later (Birkin 7), Ian Kilburn (Collectible Datsun GX) and Rodney Kruis (Honda Civic).

Jeffrey Kruger (Universal Birkin) will face drivers like Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Birkin), Thomas Falkiner (Adaptive Resource Taylon), Rudi Barnard (Barneys Birkin) and Sean Hewitt (Birkin) in the Lotus Challenge races.

The Monoposto single seater races should have podium chasers like Corrie le Roux (Pigments Formula M), Damien Archer (DM Ray FVW), Leon Scholtz (Ray FVW), Clint Badoux (Ratel Roof Ray) and Koos Pothumus (KMZM FM).

Rounding out the day will be two handicap races for the Charlies Super Spar Pursuit brigade, with the winners pretty hard to predict.

Front runners should include Bert van Aarle (Mazda MX-5), Machiel Oberholzer (Aquaperm Mercedes 190E), Kola de Klerk (Nissan 300ZX), Werner Hartzenberg (Porsche 916), Clive Winterstein (Porsche 356A), Riaan Roux (Volkswagen Scirocco) and Robert Clark (Citroen GS 1220 Club).

Due to Covid-19 regulations, no spectators will be allowed.
