Spectacle to rule at Mahem
Regional championship tar oval racing will return to the Mahem Raceway in Pretoria West in style this Saturday evening, with eight competition categories in action.

The BMG Brits Challenge will be headed up by two categories of V8 Sprint Car racing – a new feature in local oval racing.
Driving seven-litre Thundersprint cars will be people like Quinten Lehman, Eugene Saaiman and Charl Carlson Junior.
The Thundersprint vehicles boast massive wings and tyres, produce 500kW of power, reach 170km/h on 400-metre oval tracks, and provide for a thunderously brilliant spectacle.
Backing them up will be races for five-litre cars, producing some 400kW of power. Top drivers should include Dana Jordaan, Des Pieterse and Eugene Saaiman.
Staying with the open-wheeler theme, there should be around a dozen Super Midgets, using Mazda Rotary engines with some 230kW. Meanwhile the Open Midget class will see various supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder cars, with top drivers like Johan Swiegers and Quintin Saaiman having entered.
Two-litre space frame Pinto cars will top the saloon car classes, backed by races for 1660cc Modified Saloons and Retro Rods.
Finally, there will be kids between the ages of five and 11 years old in Ninja Midget karts.
The Mahem gates will be open from noon, with practice sessions in the afternoon.
Racing proper will kick off at 7pm sharp.
Tickets will be sold at the gates, with admission to cost R50 per adult, and R20 per child between the ages of seven and 12 years.
Food and drink will be on
sale or you may take your own, with parking plentiful, free and patrolled.
