Veteran cars and steam engines on show at the Vaal
The annual Wheels at the Vaal and Steam Festival will take place at the Vaal River Campus of the North-West University in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday and Sunday.
MAJESTIC. A wide variety of veteran cars and street rods will form part of the Wheels at the Vaal show this weekend.
The event is again organised by the Sylviavale Heritage Museum, the North-West University and the Rotarians of Vanderbijlpark. They say via the Vaal Old Wheels Club the festival is a celebration of our heritage and stretches beyond classic vehicles – although many classic vehicles and motorcycles will be on show.
The club will also raffle a 1992 Volkswagen CitiGolf. The tickets will cost R30 and the draw will take place on Sunday afternoon.
Other attractions will include working steam engines such as a 1911 Marshall and a 1925 Ransomes Simms and Jeffries will be driving antique machinery like threshing drums and corn grinders. The 1923 Fowler Steam Traction Engine will once again be puffing along and other antique machinery and engines will be demonstrated.
The old craft of blacksmithing will also be on display recalling the skills of a bygone era. Antique stallholders will be on hand selling vintage parts and bric a brac at an Autojumble.
There will be a large arts and crafts section along with food stalls and a beer tent. The festival will be open from 8am to 5pm each day.
The GPS coordinates at the entrance gate are S 26° 43′ 505″ E 27° 52′ 736″ and admission will cost R50 per adult, with school children going in for free.
