Exploring Swaziland and its wonders.

Lowveld Media Journalists explore the Kingdom of Swaziland following an invitation by the country's Tourism Authority.

I have never in my wildest dreams thought that I could experience such a magical journey.

This comes after the Swaziland Tourism Authority (STA) invited a group of journalists from several media houses within the province (Mpumalanga), in an effort to educate them about the country, its people, culture and the tourist attraction sites.

As a result the trip kicked-off at the Matsamo border post -which was our point of entry- and proceeded to the historic Pigg’s Peak en route to the beautiful Phophonyane falls lodge and Nature reserve where we were met by a picturesque view of the place’s fona and flora including its waterfall which has been flowing for the past centuries.

We then drove to the Maguga lodge for lunch on the deck over-looking the dam while being serenaded by the wonderful breeze.

After Lunch, we continued our adventure to Malolotja Nature reserve to indulge ourselves in an exhilarating Tree top Canopy tour-which has as a result been nominated as the eighth wonder of the world- after an amplifying game drive.

Following the adrenaline triggering experience we then retired to the majestic Royal Swazi Sun which is based at Ezulwini valley.

As the beautiful sun rays pierced through the clouds, our first stop was the National Museum -the only museum in the country- where we learned more about the Swazi nation, their culture and rich history, ahead of learning more about the current King’s-Mswati III – predecessor King Sobhuza’s early life as a prince of the humble nation at a memorial parknamed after him (King Sobhuza).

The tour then continued to Mantega Cultural village where we experienced the Swazi nation’s ancient way of living ahead of feasting in the nation’s traditional food while interacting with the STA officials led by Ms Nokwanda Dlamini.

We were then creatively enlightened as we payed a visit at Swazi Candles to view how wax is moulded into differently shaped and sized candles.

Seeing the sun set while over-looking, Sheba’s breast and Execution hill which are some of the two famous mountains in swaziland, was the order of the day before being whisked away for a game drive at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary ahead of relaxing in traditional huts, where we spent the night.

Lest I forget that I still have respect for the big Five. This is after an up close and personal view of some of the big five- Rhino and Elephant- among other animals during our life changing experience at Mkhaya game reserve.

After a visit to Mkhaya we proceeded to the great Lusutfu river where we participated in an exciting sport of white water rafting ahead of meeting the STA staff at the beautiful Summerfields botanical gardens.
