Land issues a cause for concern

They are against the municipalities for failing in their planning .

MBOMBELA – It is not something great that people end up being forced to occupy

land illegally because this results from the lack of planning by the

municipalities concerned in particular areas

COPE in Mpumalanga’s provincial

secretary, Mr Sizile Ndlovu said: “We are against the fact that municipalities

are failing in their planning as this is exactly why we ended up having places

such as Zola, Msholozi and other informal settlements, including Buyisonto where

people recently had their houses demolished without any alternative

accommodation.

“We really do not want to see what happened at Lenasia taking

place in Mpumalanga because it is just unacceptable that due to municipalities’

failures to plan properly, people end up being forced to occupy the land

illegally.

“It is very wrong for people to occupy land illegally but in the

same breath it is very wrong for municipalities to force the people to occupy

lad by failing to conduct proper planning,” said Ndlovu.
