Mpumalanga students attend study programme in Germany

The programme broadens participants' exposure to international academics, diverse cultures, and global student mobility

Four University of Mpumalanga (UMP) students recently participated in the Hessen International Winter University (IWU) at Fulda University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

UMP third-year Bachelor of Arts students Phumulani Zungu, Tshegofatso Charmain Chidi, Thabang Molimi, and Tonie Tshianeo attended this year’s three-week programme from January 10 to 31.

The IWU combines academic teaching with intercultural exchange and offers participants the opportunity to learn about key social, cultural and linguistic topics from an international perspective.

In addition, the students are familiarised with Fulda and gain an insight into the German higher education system.

Students from Australia, Finland, Kenya, Morocco, Portugal, South Africa, and Ukraine attended, and UMP was the first South African university to participate in the IWU.

“The programme forms part of our strategic internationalisation initiatives, aimed at enhancing student mobility, global exposure and experiential learning. This is yet another testament to our commitment to working in collaboration and co-operation with strategic partners to enrich the academic journey and personal development of our students,” said UMP’s vice chancellor, Professor Thenjiwe Meyiwa.
