City to host final

The Telkom Knockout final comes at a time the stadium is being utilised by the PSL campaigners Mpumalanga Black Aces and the newly promoted Rugby outfits, the Steval Pumas as their home ground.

The 2010 Soccer World Cup stadium, Mbombela continues to page through the history books.

This is after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the Telkom Knockout sponsors, Telkom announced that this year’s episode of the Telkom Knockout final will be hosted by the province at the trusted Mbombela stadium.

“After considering a number of venues, we agreed that Mbombela Stadium will be a suitable one to host the 2013/14 final.

“It is important for the league to afford our sponsors, Telkom, enough time to prepare, so I believe the two weeks between the semi-finals and the final will do justice to all parties involved.

“The PSL and Telkom will do everything to ensure that we present a memorable event on December 7,” said the PSL CEO, Brand de Villiers.

The Telkom Knockout final comes at a time the stadium is being utilised by the PSL campaigners Mpumalanga Black Aces and the newly promoted Rugby outfits, the Steval Pumas as their home ground.

Besides playing host to these two teams, this stadium has hosted other high profiled soccer matches including two double headers during the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

It has also recently hosted a Rugby double header, involving the Springboks, Italy and Samoa.

The stadium manager, Roelf Kotze, said that the stadium would be in perfect playable condition and they were ready to host the final.

“We are pleased to have been considered to host the finals, as you know this is not our first major tournament as we have hosted a number of big soccer and rugby games before.

“I can safely confirm that we are ready for this one.

“We want to appeal to soccer-loving people of the province to fill up the stadium and show the entire nation that we are mad about soccer, so that the sponsors and PSL don’t regret bringing the final here,” said Kotze.

Telkom’s Nakedi Chiloane added, “We are thankful to the PSL for the consideration and agree with the fair regional distribution of finals. We are excited to take this year’s edition to Mpumalanga.

“So far, we are extremely happy with this year’s edition and look forward to an exciting final.”

Pak and ride system will be operational and the stadium management has appealed to soccer fans to buy tickets early and respect the parking rules on the day.
