Local musician honors Madiba

Jafta Bestenbier recently launched his CD Bye bye Madiba, to honour the life of a hero.

Jafta Bestenbier recently launched his CD Bye bye Madiba, to honour the life of a hero.

“Madiba was a statesman and an icon of the world and through my music I honour him in a very big way,” Bestenbier said and explained how he felt the need to share it with the word.

“I want to share it with the word, especially with those who were not able to attend Madiba’s funeral. I wanted to tell the people what Madiba did for us”.

Bestenbier specialises in reggae music, which evolved out of the earlier gentres, “ska” and “rocksteady”.

With tracks such as “Stop abuse” and “Vote” he talks about “Real issues” and voice daily challenges people are faced with. “People tend to turn a blind eye to problems, and it is my responsibility to address these issues through my music,” he said.

Bestenbier has only been singing for five years now, but dreams of becoming an international star one day. “I believe I can create a platform through my music whereby I can talk about the real issues in the word. I believe I am the only reggae musician in South Africa. I am Jafta. I am an original.”

Bestenbier is currently looking for a manager and if anyone is interested in assisting him, he can be contacted on 072-152-1665.
