Soccer fanatics in the Nkomazi subregion have started voting for their favourite teams to participate in the ninth edition of the Selati Cup.
Even though there were dark forces working behind the scenes in an attempt to hijack this competition and prevent it from being hosted, thus taking away the livelihoods of many aspiring footballers in this subregion, local teams and supporters alike have begun voting and are eager to participate in this tournament.
“We are aware of power struggles within our local football association and we actually don’t care what they do to each other, all we want is what’s best for the subregion and our children who are given that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shine.
“For this reason only, I have personally taken a conscious decision to vote for not just one team, but I have voted for a number of teams that I know deserve to be there,” said a concerned community member, who also pointed out that the association needed leaders who are development-driven and not there to serve their selfish egos or settle old scores.
This year, a total of 20 participating treams and a grand total of 317 teams competing in this annual tourney, scheduled to start on March 22 until June 7.
