Basketball league set to be launched locally
We need local teams to submit applications because we are launching the league on November 7 and the games will be starting next year in March.
The Ehlanzeni Basketball Association is calling on local teams to submit their application so they can be part of the basketball tournament that is expected to be launched at the KaNyamazane Multipurpose Court next month.
In an interview with Mpumalanga News, the chairperson of the association, Swekie Mamba said he wanted to promote this type of sport in the community because there were young people who had talent in basketball, but they were limited because they didn’t have a league.
“We need local teams to submit applications because we are launching the league on November 7 and the games will be starting next year in March. Currently we have been approached by tertiary institutions’ teams such as Tshwane University of Technology, University of Mpumalanga and Mlumati TEV college,” he explained.
Mamba said they were expecting 12 teams to take part and they had to be from the Ehlanzeni region.
“At this stage, we are focusing on the Ehlanzeni Basketball League and make sure that it is sustained, and then maybe in future we can go for a provincial league where we will include other regions which are Gert Sibande and Nkangala, but for now we can only play with the other districts on friendly games,” he concluded.
